I'm not familiar with online application forms. How do I apply for a position?
Before you start, do you have an email address? If not, you need one as the application form will ask you for it. Fortunately, it's very easy and straight forward to set up an email account with Hotmail. Click here to get an email address.
Click on current jobs on the main screen within the Job Search section, and then on the relevant department (for example "engineering"). Choose the role you are interested in and you'll be able to read the relevant job advert. If the job sounds like the one for you, click on the 'apply now' button.
You'll be asked to answer a couple of questions before accepting our terms and conditions of using the website. You will then be able to start the application process online.
If this is your first time to AltonTowersJobs.com, you'll need to register by creating a profile. This is a standard form you need to complete so that your details are recognised by Peoplebank, the administrators of AltonTowersJobs.com. One of the sections will ask you about the industries and job areas you are interested in. If you are interested in any of our Rides positions, we advise you select "leisure". All other standard job areas are covered by the other choices available. Click “next”
The application form. You must complete all the sections on each page before you'll be taken to the next page. Once you have completed all the pages, click "submit" ... and your application will be sent to us via the internet. We'll review your application and will be in touch with you via your email account or by phone.
What happens once I apply?
You will automatically receive an e-mail confirming receipt of your application. You can then expect to hear from us again within the next 14 days.
Will I know if I have been unsuccessful once I have applied?Yes – we will contact you either way to confirm whether or not you have been successful.
What is the selection process?
Successful applicants will normally be required to attend either an assessment centre and/or an interview. Find out more at Our Process.
What can I expect from a recruitment day/assessment centre?
Come smartly dressed, with an open mind, and be prepared to interact! You'll be participating in a couple of team based activities (nothing strenuous) that will help us see how you interact with different people – after all, that's what you'll be doing day in day out when you work here. After that, there'll be short interview – you'll be with us a maximum of two hours.

Do you provide accommodation?
We partner with a lettings agency, Castle Estates in Stafford that will be able to help you find suitable accommodation in the local area. We have student-style accommodation two new purpose-converted mill buildings in Leek, Staffordshire, in addition to relationships with local residents with rooms to rent. Any accommodation Castle Estates provide will be within a 10 minute walk of our bus routes, unless you have your own transport. Find out more at Local Accommodation.
Do you provide transport to and from work?
Yes, depending on where you live. Alton Towers provides a fleet of 10 branded buses on a subsidised basis for all employees wishing to use them. They currently run in and around the Potteries (Stoke-on-Trent area), Leek, and Uttoxetter areas. The cost of travel depends where you are catching the bus from, but a 10-journey pass costs £16 and covers you for any trip you make on our buses.
The vehicles are also available for private hire purposes (call 01538 704063 to make a booking - employees receive a 40% discount!)
What is the dress code?
Within certain roles you are required to wear a uniform (e.g. food and beverage or retail). We operate a fairly flexible policy on dress code in all non-uniform areas. In some roles you may even get the chance to wear a costume!
What will my shifts be?
Shifts vary according to the position and department. These will be agreed at the recruitment stage.
Is it a very formal environment to work in?
How can we be when it's our mission to provide fun!? We firmly believe that if you enjoy your time working here our customers are much more likely to have an enjoyable time too! Without a doubt the roles can be very hard and demanding - it takes a special kind of person to be as friendly and positive at the end of the day as they are at the beginning! Our teams of staff are welcoming, committed, and believe in supporting each other to get the job done. Remember there'll be plenty of people in the same boat as you!
Additionally, all of our managers operate an open door policy, so there's always someone to talk to if you need to!
What is the company social scene like?
All attractions have their own social clubs and hold social events throughout the year. After work drinks are also popular!
Will I get free tickets?
Yes! Employees are issued with a "Merlin Magic Pass" enabling them, their friends and family to experience our fabulous attractions and theme parks.
I need a work permit to work in the UK. Can I still apply?
Eligibility to work in the UK is a prerequisite for employment with The Merlin Group. You will need to provide proof of right to work in the UK when you come in for an Interview. To view a full list of appropriate documentation please click here.
Are there any age restrictions?
There are certain requirements for different roles, at each attraction. Generally you have to be at least 16-18 years old or above to apply. For some roles, such as in Security, you'll need to be 21 or over to satisfy our insurance requirements. All applicants must be over 18 to apply to the London Eye for Health and Safety reasons.
Do you have a drugs policy?
Alton Towers and Merlin is committed both legally and morally to provide a safe working environment for all employees and visitors. It is recognised that this can be put at risk by employees who misuse alcohol and/or drugs to such an extent their health, performance, conduct and relationships at work are adversely affected.
Alton Towers reserves the right to carry out drug and alcohol testing upon employees at the discretion of the Head of Human Resources/Head of Medical Services at such times and places as they deem necessary. Any employee who tests 'positive' for illegal drugs usage for which no alternative explanation can be found will be subject to the Merlin disciplinary procedure.
What is your attitude towards smoking?
In order to promote a healthy and pleasant working environment, Merlin does not allow employees or business visitors to smoke on its premises except in certain designated areas. In order to be fair and consistent in our treatment of non-smokers, smokers are expected to have cigarettes in appropriate break times.
